Meet Our Team

Randy Schram – Owner & President

Randy Schram is the Owner and President of Smart Home Systems, where he has built his career around an industry that continues to evolve alongside the technology it delivers. Originally from Billings, Randy moved to Bozeman for college and quickly discovered that the Gallatin Valley was where he wanted to put down roots, build a business, and raise his family. While Randy has always appreciated the innovation and possibilities behind smart-home technology, his greatest passion has always been the people. He believes the best technology is only as valuable as the experience it creates, and that philosophy has helped shape Smart Home Systems into a company focused not only on exceptional systems, but also on exceptional service.

As a business owner and leader, Randy places tremendous value on building lasting relationships with clients, employees, builders, and industry partners. From the first conversation through installation and ongoing support, he encourages his team to listen carefully, communicate openly, and find solutions that make technology simple and enjoyable to use. For Randy, creating an exceptional customer experience means taking care of people, standing behind the company’s work, and being there long after a project is complete.

Outside of Smart Home Systems, Randy enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Whether exploring somewhere new or relaxing with family at the lake, he values the time spent with the people closest to him. Those same values of family, relationships, and genuine connection continue to influence the way he leads Smart Home Systems and approaches the relationships the company has built throughout the community.

Philip Wilcheck – Sales Manager

Philip Wilcheck has been part of Smart Home Systems since 2018, bringing a strong background in audio/video, automation, and creative problem-solving to every project. He enjoys helping clients find practical ways to use technology to make their homes more comfortable, intuitive, and enjoyable. For Philip, the right solution starts with listening. He takes the time to understand how clients live, what matters to them, and what they want their home to do for them. From there, he helps create systems that are easy to use, thoughtfully designed, and tailored to the people who will use them every day.

Philip also believes a successful project is about more than the finished system. Clear communication, trust, and a positive experience throughout the process matter just as much. He especially enjoys finding creative solutions that simplify technology while respecting the design of the home and the individual needs of each client.

Outside of work, Philip enjoys spending time with his wife and their three children. Together, they make the most of life in Montana, whether they’re fishing, hunting, skiing, or simply getting outside and exploring as a family

He began his career in the late 1990s as a rough-in and installation technician, gaining hands-on experience in service and project management before moving into engineering leadership. Since joining Smart Home Systems in 2014, Derrick has brought that practical perspective to every project, focusing on solutions that make sense for the client, the home, and the way the technology will actually be used.

Derrick approaches system design with an honest, straightforward mindset. His years in the field give him an understanding of how decisions made during engineering affect everything that follows, from installation and performance to the long-term client experience. He believes good design starts by understanding what a client truly needs, then finding the most practical way to deliver it.

Over the past four years, Derrick has also led the development of Smart Home Systems’ Oxygen division, helping expand the company’s capabilities in residential oxygen systems. His combination of field experience and engineering knowledge allows him to look at complex projects from multiple angles, anticipate challenges, and help the team find solutions that work.

Christian Suarez – Senior Project Manager

Christian Suarez brings more than 26 years of experience in the home automation industry, beginning his career during Seattle’s dot-com boom. What started as a lifelong interest in technology, music, and home entertainment has grown into a career dedicated to helping people get the most out of the technology in their homes. Christian’s passion for the industry began long before it became his profession. Growing up in the Bronx, New York, he developed an early appreciation for music, film, and HiFi audio.

At just 17, his first magazine subscription was Stereo Review, and by high school, he was already building speakers for himself and his friends. That curiosity about how technology could enhance the way people experience music and entertainment ultimately led him to a career in home automation. His journey to Montana took him from the Bronx to serving in the U.S. Army in Hawaii, and later to the University of Washington in Seattle, where he met his wife, a Montana native. Christian joined Smart Home Systems and made Montana home in 2017. Today, he and his wife are raising their two daughters as sixth-generation Montanans and enjoying everything the Treasure State has to offer, from skiing at Bridger Bowl and Big Sky to exploring Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks.

As a project manager, Christian believes great leadership starts with being present, leading by example, and being willing to roll up his sleeves when needed. He takes pride in doing things the right way rather than taking shortcuts and enjoys mentoring the next generation of custom integrators. For Christian, delivering exceptional work is about more than technology—it’s about experience, craftsmanship, and helping both clients and team members get the very best from every project.

He especially enjoys projects where homeowners are involved from start to finish, working together to turn their smart home vision into reality.

He takes pride in finding creative solutions to complex challenges and approaches every project with the goal of making the experience as successful and enjoyable as possible. Eric’s grandparents have called Montana home his entire life, and he spent many years exploring and enjoying Southwest Montana. This lifelong connection to the Gallatin Valley gave Eric a deep appreciation for the beautiful area and community values, prompting him to move to the Bozeman area in 2017. Outside of work, Eric enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids and taking advantage of everything Montana has to offer. His hobbies include dirt biking, cycling, skiing, snowmobiling, flying airplanes, and—when he isn’t chasing another adventure—working on his lawn. He especially enjoys exploring Montana’s backcountry, whether skiing remote terrain or discovering new trails on his dirt bike.

Continuous learning, family, and integrity are at the core of how Eric approaches both his personal and professional life. He believes in leading by example and continually learning so he can bring more value to his family, his clients, and his community. Fun fact: Eric started a Thursday morning golf league that plays before work on the office simulator.

Joseph Bennett – Project Manager

A Montana native, Joseph Bennett has called the Gallatin Valley home since 2019 and has worked in the home automation industry since 2022. As a Project Manager with Smart Home Systems, Joseph brings together strong organization, critical thinking, and communication skills to help guide projects from concept to completion and deliver state-of-the-art home automation systems tailored to each client. One of the most rewarding parts of Joseph’s work is seeing a client experience a “wow” moment at their first interaction with their newly installed system.

Whether it’s watching motorized shades quietly roll into place or hearing a favorite song through a pristine audio system, he takes great pride in seeing the technology come together to create moments that enhance the way clients enjoy their homes. Joseph’s interest in technology extends well beyond his workday. He enjoys tackling home improvement projects, many involving audio and video, and puts his technical knowledge to use helping manage the AV and technology systems at his church. He approaches both his personal and professional life with a desire to keep learning, take on new challenges, and continually grow his skills.

Outside of work, Joseph enjoys motorcycling, skiing, hiking, watching movies, and spending quality time with his wife and two children. Whether he’s working on a home automation project, exploring Montana, or taking on his next project at home, Joseph appreciates staying active, learning new things, and finding satisfaction in a job well done.

Brennan Schram – Installation Manager

Brennan Schram has been part of the Smart Home Systems team since 2013, building a well-rounded understanding of the industry through a variety of roles. Over the years, he has worked as an installer, technician, Senior Project Manager, and now Install Manager. That hands-on experience gives Brennan a valuable perspective on every stage of a project and an appreciation for the details that turn a well-designed system into an exceptional one. Brennan especially enjoys projects that require a high level of precision and attention to detail.

Complex installations and homes with high-end finishes provide the kind of challenges he finds most rewarding, where technology needs to perform flawlessly while integrating seamlessly into the home. Above all, Brennan focuses on creating systems that are intuitive and easy to use. He particularly enjoys changing the perspective of clients who may have been frustrated by complicated technology in the past by showing them just how simple and enjoyable a thoughtfully designed system can be.

Building strong, trusting relationships is also an important part of Brennan’s approach. He values working closely with builders and the entire project team, bringing a solution-oriented mindset to challenges and helping ensure each installation comes together as intended. For Brennan, being part of the solution and delivering work everyone can be proud of is one of the most rewarding aspects of his career. Outside of work, Brennan enjoys spending time with his family and close friends. His favorite hobby is powerlifting, where he appreciates the direct connection between effort and results. He also values the discipline and healthy habits that come with the sport, both of which reflect the same dedication and consistency he brings to his work.

Levi Mowrey – Security Manager

Levi Mowrey brings nearly two decades of low-voltage experience to his role as Security Manager at Smart Home Systems, including more than 10 years focused on professional fire alarm, security, access control, and surveillance systems. Licensed in Montana for both fire and security, Levi understands that protecting a home or property starts with more than technology. It starts with understanding the people who live and work there, what matters to them, and how the right system can help them feel secure. Levi’s technical background began before he entered the low-voltage industry in 2007. As a Sonar Technician in the U.S. Navy, he worked with both high- and low-voltage systems and served as a Petty Officer, gaining early experience in leadership and responsibility.

Combined with his entrepreneurial background, those experiences shaped the way he approaches his work today: take ownership, pay attention to the details, and make sure the solution works for the people who depend on it. His philosophy is simple: serve, not sell. Rather than starting with a product or system, Levi starts by listening. He takes the time to understand the client, their property, and what they are actually trying to protect, then recommends a solution that makes sense for their needs. His faith is also an important part of how he works, guiding his commitment to doing things the right way, treating people well, and taking pride in the quality of every project.

Outside of Smart Home Systems, Levi is most proud of being a husband and father. He and his family enjoy sports, working on cars, spending time on the water, and just about anything fast, especially racing. He is also active in his local church and values opportunities to serve and invest in his community.

In her role, Courtney enjoys finding ways to make life a little easier for the people around her. She takes pride in being someone her coworkers can count on and works hard to create an environment where people feel comfortable coming to her with questions, concerns, or anything they may need. For Courtney, making sure others feel heard, supported, and cared for is one of the most rewarding parts of her job.

Outside of work, Courtney loves spending time with her husband and their four pugs. Whether she’s reading in the backyard, enjoying the outdoors, or simply getting some fresh air, she’s always happy to take advantage of everything Montana has to offer.

Cami Salo – Service Manager

Cami Salo grew up in Colorado, but it didn’t take long for Montana to feel like home. After her first visit in 2021, she quickly fell in love with the state and soon joined the Smart Home Systems team. Although she entered the home automation industry with no previous experience, she embraced the opportunity to learn and quickly discovered a genuine passion for technology, problem-solving, and creating an exceptional experience for clients.

As Service Manager, Cami thrives on being at the forefront of client needs. She enjoys taking the time to understand each concern, determine what the client needs, and collaborate with the Smart Home Systems team to find the right solution. Her hands-on approach allows her to turn challenges into opportunities to strengthen relationships and provide the responsive, dependable service clients expect.

Through her years with Smart Home Systems, Cami has developed a strong understanding of both the technology and the level of service required to support it. She takes pride in anticipating client expectations and makes it her mission to meet, and whenever possible, exceed them. For Cami, great service is about more than solving a technical issue; it’s about making sure clients feel heard, supported, and confident in the systems they rely on every day.
Outside of work, Cami enjoys exploring Montana with her family, whether camping near Flathead Pass, hiking, or simply spending time outdoors. When she has a quiet moment, she also enjoys settling in with a good book. Most of all, she loves spending time with her two young daughters, where playing princess and watching their favorite Disney movies are always time well spent.
